01.  Apprehend.

Meaning: to take into custody; arrest by legal warrant or authority:

To grasp the meaning of; understand, especially intuitively;

02.   Apprise.

Meaning: 

To give notice to; inform; advise (often followed by of):

·        He smiled with gentle irony when I told him of what I had heard, and how I had hastened to apprise him of it.

·        You are then to apprise the President of the Haarlem Society.

 

03. Approbation.

Meaning: official approval or sanction.

Obsolete. Conclusive proof.

·     They ask not for my approbation, intended, as it should seem, to suppose me into their will.

·     Had they not come that she might show off to them, and receive their approbation!

 

04. Arbitrary.

Meaning: subject to individual will or judgment without restriction; contingent solely upon one's discretion:

Meaning: known or understood by very few; mysterious; secret; obscure; esoteric:
